Who We Are

Local sheep farmers the Donovan family are behind Lambtastic a revolutionary and distinctive type of lamb set to revolutionise the consumers' approach to the traditional Aussie table fare.

The fourth generation farming brothers Ryan and Ruston Donovan decided to follow the lead of other primary producers and develop and sell their produce direct to the public, taking control of their business from start to finish including the retail price of their product through to when it hits the table, they could foresee the need to diversify from the operations being pursued at this time. The minimal returns from such expensive outlay and the possibilities of the financial risks associated if the seasons were to go against those current operations prompted this vision.

Through understanding opportunities that Hurlstone Pty Ltd offered, they believed that through a concept and branding, the company could be responsible to provide fresh high quality niche produce to the general community. This forecast was acted on and Lambtastic was born.

Lambtastic incorporates the Donovan family's Dohne-Merino sheep breeding program, raised on Old Man Saltbush paddocks planted by their father, Trevor Donovan, at "Hurlstone" the family property north of Mulwala.

The Dohne Breed is a dual-purpose breed developed by the South African Department of Agriculture by using Peppin-type Merino ewes and German Mutton Merino sires.
The progeny were interbred and selected for their rapid lamb growth, fertility and fine wool production under harsh commercial pastoral conditions. Today the South African flock is made up of 70% Dohne's, all breeds included. The breed was introduced into Australia in 1998.

The sheep have thrived on the farm's planted saltbush, resulting in a number of benefits.
The saltbush not only thrives in the natural harsh conditions it also enhances the flavour of the lamb and is quickly making a name for itself on menus around the country.
Yarrawonga and Border Golf Club, for example, offer the Donovans' saltbush lamb at its carvery and for functions.

The Old Man Saltbush roots can reach depths in excess of 20 feet providing the plant with an abundant nutrient source.
As the food chain progresses, these essential nutrients are finally consumed by the human body through a high yeilding great tasting meat.
